Fall Semester 2023, we explored using analog film as a way to explore live action filmmaking. This posed a lot of challenges but also allowed for a lot of precision and surprises. My first foray into more visual and experimental live action filmmaking.
"Owl", shot on Bolex 16mm film.
I wanted to create a physical puppet for this project, and decided to weave an owl-like creature with yarn and fabric. An exploration of working with a performer and following some improvised actions with the camera. Puppetry helps me explore ideas of connecting with nature, an inner spirit, and a journey of a person across time and space.
